great sight, perhaps one of the best in this city.

great sight, perhaps one of the best in this city. But in rush hours so many people and so much religion staff around is a little noisy. You must walking enough to catch this area but believe me, is good to see and easy to access.

The Dormition Cathedral was blown up in WWII, and the Refectory Church was badly damaged, but since Ukrainian independence they have been impressively recreated. Upper Lavra is more interesting than Lower Lavra, where the Near and Far Caves are best left to religious Ukrainian-readers. Monks try to keep you in line and to use candles rather than torches.

Well the moestary is huge and you will probably have to walk a long way (mostly uphill or downhill) to reach your final aim the cave graves of the so called Moschi(mumified saints). For the atmosphere and experience dont use your flashlight, but buy a candle at the cave entrance and leave it at your preferd Moschi for your blessing.Manny people pray with one of the dead saints for a good job(forgot his name though). If you visit the small russian orthodox church at Babyn Yar and befriend the priests, they may invite you for a meal with communion wine and even show you around in Lavra. Lavra means street or way. There are several Lavras in the Ukraine, but only this one in Kiev though. The name comes from the narrow aisle between the caves where the moks even closed the openings with brickwork only leaving a small opening get food and water .

    Iconic!!!!

Iconic!!!! You can breathe in and smell the culture and hardship that the Monks had to endure during the Soviet occupation era. Then head to St. Andrew's Cathedral to see a true and unknown piece of European religious history.
