Set within a unique tropical garden beside the lagoon, Hôtel Fenua Mata'i'oa features a bar and an on site restaurant. Guests at this waterfront property can relax in the outdoor hot tub. There are likely few accommodations in the world that can compare to this one. From the moment you arrive you are warmly welcomed and surrounded by so much beauty. The entire property is a living work of art. Such beauty takes care and work, and it’s a testament to the fine staff. There are lots of common areas by the water to relax comfortably and drink in every detail, preferably with a beverage and good book. It’s the perfect place to relax and reconnect with what’s truly important in life. Our garden room was perfect, with privacy and everything we could need. Gorgeous, large shower with great water pressure. While we normally preferred to prepare our own meals, we did appreciate and enjoy the fresh breakfast pastries and juice that we ordered in advance. Truly a special place. Brava, merci!

This city is located on the beautiful island of Moorea. The town was very quaint but beautiful. It has a charm with shopping for the island and native culture. The waters are very healing and also beautiful to look at.
It is in a quiet, tranquil area of Moorea, closer to Cook's Bay and Onopahu Bay. There are more private villas and pensions in this area.
Moorea was beautiful. We went on a whale and dolphin watching tour. Saw dolphins, flying fish, turtles, swam with humpback whales, stingray feeding, snorkeling. Amazing day! We also went Diving with Top Dive. We saw lemon sharks, reef sharks and turtles as well as a ton of different tropical fish. We also saw dolphins from the boat. We rented a car and drove around the island. Nice to see the area. Easy driving there. Definitely recommend a visit here! Restaurants will come pick you up for dinner and bring you back. A great way to get out to see the area and enjoy local good.
Restruants were within walking distance and we NEVER had safty concerns. Local's are friendly and inviting. Polynesia is an island chain and everything is imported so keep in mind it is pricy. We walked to the Yacht club and Rudys, which were fantastic. We had a car and checked out the entire island. A visit to Jus de Fruits de Moorea S.A. for Tahiti Drink was a bonus.
Nice laid back Southern part of Moorea. From there, you can drive to Temae beach (15-20 min) or the beach on the West coast with the big totem.
Beautiful Island in general terms. This part of the Island is our favorite- we've visited Moorea 9 times. As with all islands; the weather and conditions can change quickly and extremely. This area seems to be the most stable. The sun seems to smile on this side of the island more so than other parts. The Cook Bay & Oponuoo Bay are on each side of this area, so the views are stunning, especially from the water looking back at the shore. The coral reefs are abundant and teaming with fish, shark and rays. It's relatively shallow and calm as well. (You can be a 1/2 mile out and the bottom is 12 ft down.)
Once again it was an amazing trip. We loved The Sofitel and it's wonderful beach, great food and wonderful staff. The concierge got us a shuttle to Avis rent a car and for $100 we rented a car for 4 hours and drove around the island, shopped and saw the sites. Beautiful!! Next time I would rent the car for longer because we didn't have time to drive up to The Belvedere, an amazing look out in Moorea.
Moorea is a beautiful island that has one main beach road around it that is easy to navigate and see all the natural beauty that is evident everywhere you look. There are great places to stay but no highrises which makes it even more charming and desireable. There are many great beachside restaurants to choose from. A must experience, is the Tiki Village dinner and theater. It is the most authentic Polynesian dinner and show I've ever seen and it is filled with heart...and fire! Go!
The Tiki Village was the best luau with authentic Tahitian food. ThE quantity and quality was the best in Polynesia. The entertainment was excellent. The musicians and dancers were the best in the Society Islands. Highly recommended. A must when visiting Moorea, especially the evening show.
Perfect for food and shopping. Go to coco island (motu) and Coco d’isle (in town) for great food. You can walk easily to shop and eat. We booked a wave runner, snorkeled, played with stingrays and rented a car. The only thing that was REALLY upsetting was seeing all of the starving and sick dogs and cats around the island. The government should do something about this situation, as it makes a lot of tourists VERY upset. They should put in a free spay and neuter program to cut down on all of the population of dogs and cats and require people to feed their animals on a daily basis!!!!! I ended up buying dog food and feeding hungry dogs all around Moorea!!!!!!!
The hotel is brand-new which means that the bungalow was pristine clean and super modern while embracing the traditional design and decorations of a Polynesian fare. We had our own spacious 1-bedroom bungalow with kitchen ans living room facing one of the most beautiful beach in Moorea. The location is pretty awesome! We loved the fact that we could just borrow kayaks and paddles to go and explore the lagoon - it’s easy to go to the Tipaniers beach where the stingrays and sharks can be seen.
This is a beautiful self contained apartment/home on the north side of Moorea. The property was incredibly clean and very well looked after. It is designed and decorated in a traditional Polynesian style, with open air access and comfortable facilities. An amazing, beautiful beach with rays and sharks is only a few minutes away. Michelle and her husband are amazing hosts. We were given snorkelling gear, BBQ gear, and also bicycles. I would stay here again, happily.
Papetoai
Our stay exceeded our expectations. We stayed in an over the water bungalow (breathtaking) and also a garden bungalow (tranquil). Both were outstanding. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating throughout our stay. The daily happy hour was a nice plus and the morning breakfast had an array of options to meet our needs. Hotel also had snorkeling and boating equipment for use at our disposal. Definitely plan on staying here again on our next stay in Moorea.
Maharepa
This is a fantastic place to stay on Moorea. It is very comfortable for two couples. It has separated bedrooms with a bath on each end. The shared living space was excellent. Right on the beach with a lovely deck. Good views and swimming. A real bonus was meeting the family that owns it. We had great visits with Jay, one of the original Bali Hai Boys. It was so fun to get some island history from him and his family. Close to shops and hotels and dining.
My daughter and I were sad to leave Hotel Fenua Mataioa. We stayed 3 nights. It is probably one of the most beautiful garden oasis on the island that is right on the water. It’s quiet, very clean and the owner and staff are very friendly. We are now at Hotel Hibiscus- huge mistake!!! Thankfully we are moving to The Hilton Tahiti tonight although we would love to go back to Hotel Fenua Mataioa. Thank You for making our time on Moorea very enjoyable.
Teavaro
The place is very clean, and everything worked well. The location is very close to the best beach in all of Moorea. I would suggest renting a car/scooter (the hotel can help with that) as getting around the island without one is difficult. The owners are incredibly hospitable and went above and beyond what they needed to do to make my stay excellent! Would definitely be back here again.
Moorea
This is the best accommodation I have stayed in whilst travelling French Polynesia, it’s so affordable and the amenities are perfect. The staff help you with anything you need and let you treat their home like your own. They are so friendly! You have access to laundry , tv with Netflix etc and they even helped me rent a bike. Very comfortable stay! Made my visit to Moorea perfect 😍
Moorea
Tucked away at the base of the mountains, this location is luscious & peaceful. Very close to an incredible public beach, 30 minute walk or 10 minute bike ride. The open kitchen is great for cooking any meal & the hostel beds are very private :) Marie is amazing & will assist in any way to make your stay comfortable. Moorea is heaven & I loved staying here!!!
Haapiti
Lovely setting in a beautiful part of Moorea, quiet and peaceful in front of a lagoon with plenty of snorkelling opportunities, swimming, sunset etc… The couple who run the hotel were exceptionally hospitable and kind; well over and above what we expected. Highly recommended in every way.
Maharepa
The staff was excellent. Especially Teharati, Timi and Andy! They took great care of us. The breakfast is amazing too. Location in Maharepa is perfect since it's the heart of Moorea. The best diving center in Moorea is located inside the hotel, which is very convenient for divers.
Haapiti
The hotel is located next to les tipaners beach, which is one of the nicest ones in Moorea. The bungalow we rented was really comfortable, and equipped with washing machine and drier which was a blessing! Overall it was a great stay
A super value for a great location. Everyone at the hotel was great and very helpful. The room was excellent as was the pool, restaurant and happy hour. Perfect place to stay on Moorea.
Fabulous location, one of the best spots on Moorea. Beautiful communal area, snorkeling and sunsets out the front of the hotel were exceptional. Quiet and considerate guests.
Moorea
great people , nice welcome and advice on the location and activities etc available. Great pizzeria underneath. Easy parking . Good simple apartment , good value in moorea .
A waterfront bungalow with a deck? We absolutely loved it. We wanted a waterfront experience without paying the crazy high prices of an overwater bungalow, and this was an awesome option for a good price! I don't really understand the negative reviews of this place. If you read the description and listen to the check-in instructions upon your arrival, everything is made super clear! Yes, it's by the road, as are most of the houses and hotels on this island since the road follows the coastline. Yes, there are some bugs, but that's what's to be expected when you're staying on a tropical island. No, there's no beach (as you can see in the photos), and there really only are a couple of beaches on the entire island, but there's a dock you can swim off of and amazing snorkeling just outside your bedroom door. What more could you ask for? Our bed had a mosquito net and a fan kept us nice and cool in the evenings. The staff was incredibly kind and informed us of the meal times upon our arrival. Most of the island follows those same meal times too. I highly recommend!
Very friendly and attentive staff
Right on the beach, attention for detail and design, cozy and homy feeling, whales and sunset nearly from your bed (take a beach bungalow), extensive and delicious breakfast and romantic diner, PERFECT!
