Port Vila and the Island of Efate contain some picture postcard scenery however the town is in need of rejuvenation.

Pacific Jewel in a beautiful crown
PV is a gem, not too flash but also not super expensive, and comfortable in its own skin. Efate is a beautiful island too. It has a great fresh market open 24/6 and you can get some great Spanish wine in the supermarkets downtown. The people are super friendly and quite helpful. They'll stop if they think you are having a problem and offer to help. The only thing I don't like is the overwhelming amount of foreign ownership of stores, most of which sell absolute rubbish for tourists. Good stores are hard to come by, but the duty free shopping and favourable exchange rates are a plus. Hint, if you have some currency (e.g. USD or EUR) and you want to convert to another currency (e.g. AUD or NZD), you have to do a double conversion (e.g. USD-VUV-NZD). However, with 0% commission and non-ripoff rates it's a huge saving on converting once in Australia or New Zealand (or most other countries for that matter). Double converted $3500 USD into NZD and got an extra $80 NZD than if I'd tried to do a single transaction in NZ. The local food is pretty good too. I put on a couple of kilos in less than 2 weeks.

Vila is a very nice pacific Island city.
Vila is a very nice pacific Island city. Safe and small. Nice beautiful bay and the Island of Efate offers nice things to do. However Vila and Vanuatu in general are becoming very expensive. You don't have good value for money over there. If you want beach, sun, volcano and nice dives, prefer the Philippines or Indonesia...

All the luxuries you really need for a comfortable stay. Good place to spend atleast a few nights if you are trying to save some money on the accommodation.

We loved our stay at Paradise Cove. The food was excellent, our villa was great and Constance was quite remarkable - very friendly , extremely helpful. The bikes and kayaks were great and being right on the water was just lovely with easy access for swimming and snorkeling

We were in Vanuatu for 4 days, the hotel is a perfect place to stay in Port Vila very close to the city center and the beach, the staff of the hotel is so kind and perfect they help you for everything. Fantastic place and people, food was very good, staff brilliant friendly and helpful. Falling asleep with the sounds of the ocean, and opening up the big doors of the bungalow in the morning to have the sun shining in over the ocean was perfect.
