Room is clean and spacious. Bathroom in the room is well equipped and decorated. The public outdoor hot spring was so nice and relaxing. And there’s also a free private indoor hot spring that was very nice too. And I really like that the hot springs are 24/7. Meals were so good and all the staffs were so friendly and helpful.

This ryokan has been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence 2014.

I tried all the onsen and they were all spacious and relaxing. Breakfast had lots of choices and they were all great, I just hope I could have sampled more, but I was already full. Room was clean and big enough for 1. Many of the staff can speak English and were very patient explaining the facilities. I also had lots of help when I thought my things were missing while I was in the onsen, they all helped looking for it, turns out one of the bathers placed her things inside my basket, while all my things were all underneath hers. My favorite was the massage chairs near the onsen on the ground floor. Although the Gero station was right next to the hotel, a shuttle bus was still available.

The beautiful location in the woods (yet close to the city, 4~ mins). The spectacular labyrinth-like structure of the whole hotel that makes you want to explore it entirely (reminded us of The Shining hotel). They even have a gamified "quest" of collecting stamps in different parts of the building to make you visit memorable spots. The surprising victorian furniture of the Karaoke room and its very friendly employees, had a great night singing and drinking in there. The size of the room.

EVERYTHING. The dream come true in a ryokan (and affordable). I truly love the private onsen. It was bliss. The room, the yukatas, the ambience, the fact that look like is brand new construction but in a traditional aesthetic. A dream.

This 93 year old ryoakn was an experience we will never forget! Surrounded by breathtaking nature on the outskirts of Gero, this ryokan provides a very authentic Japanese onsen experience. It was a joy to bathe in the thermal waters in the private bath in our room, as well as the public indoor and outdoor baths. The view from the room was amazing. We booked a traditional Japanese-style tatami room, and it was spacious, with a balcony, and mentioned private bath, an awesome experience.

Izumi-so was my first Ryokan experience and couldn't recommend it more, the host was lovely, kind and accommodating. My room was very nice and the breakfast was delicious; the open air onsen was also lovely at night! Great location, about a 1-2 minute walk from the center of Gero. 10/10

The price is an absolute steal. Although the building exterior is completely modern and the lobby area/staff feel more like a normal business hotel, the room and onsen facilities themsleves are of equal quality to more expensive ryokans. Although I did not get the evening meal, it would have still been very affordable, and the room was extremely nice, spacious, and comfortable. The onsen is quite nice, even if the outdoor bath part is a little bit small.
