You need to rent a car in order to travel around. I have had a base stay in Merida. Merida is general overpriced and that doesnt mean the quality will follow for the value of the money. Merida itself is not interesting at all.

We really liked the city.
We really liked the city. You need to understand the bus situation and we tried, bought bus passes, tried using them but they were not coded the way our phone was displaying so we ended up using taxi service for all of our visitations to museums, central, restaurants, etc. It wasn't expensive but much more than the simple bus or combi travel would have been. Merida has lots to offer, especially with tours outside of the city, a bus trip to the beach in Progresso for 25 pesos each way, very cheap, cenotes, pyramids, on and on!

Merida is a big, historic, busy city surrounded by Mayan ruins, historic haciendas and beautiful cenotes. The Merida restaurant scene has everything from chef owned culinary gems to family run taco shops. There are many excellent tour guides available for in-depth exploration of the city and surroundings or one can do so on their own using public transportation or with a rental car.
Good location, within easy walking distance of the center of town and the ADO bus terminal. The Hotel and rooms looked great, the U shaped pool was long enough to swim laps. We dropped of our luggage a few hours before check-in, stayed by the reception, for a very small fee. They were doing some repainting, workers were unobtrusive and quiet. WIFI and water pressure was better than most places I stayed in Mexico. Beds were fairly comfortable. It would be a great value if not for the issues.
This was probably the best boutique I ever stayed in and I’ve traveled to a lot of places in Latin America. Combination of value offered for price, best breakfast included, great location but not feeling too touristy, felt super safe, Lorena was amazing and super responsive anytime we needed anything. Great info booklet with suggestions. Pool area was beautiful, cool people that stayed. We loved this hotel and Merida. The woman who made breakfast sent us with some food to go it was so nice
We travel a lot and especially Mexico because we live in Guadalajara. This hotel is fantastic. It’s super clean and comfortable. The vegan cafe is delightful and so delicious. If you want a truly Mexican experience this is it. The courtyard has a lovely fountain and very well maintained garden. A paradise. Everyone there is very kind and accommodating. For those non-spanish speakers, they also speak english. Their location is perfect; close to everything yet still peaceful and quiet.
Fast and reliable WiFi--the first time I've experienced this in 2 months in Mexico. My zoom calls were perfectly stable. Almost everyone who worked at the hotel spoke really good English--this is the first time I've experienced this in Mexico (I've only been to the Yucatan). Everyone was super helpful and friendly. The room was clean, comfortable, and stylish. Perfect location--walking distance from bus station and the central square. And the hotel is affordable. This is a gem!
We stayed at this property for the first 2 nights in Merida and on the last night before returning to the United States. Both visits bookended a wonderful week exploring the beaches (Celustun in particular), Cenotes and FLAMINGOS in this less-crowed part of the Yucatan. We will particularly miss the friendly greeting of Berto as he welcomed us back to the hotel each evening when we returned from dinner. Berto you are awesome!
The staff was very professional and attentive.
The hotel is very well design in a minimal, yet comfortable style. The pool is amazing and huge for a Merida boutique hotel. Perfect for the afternoon on the super hot days there.
The continental breakfast was lovely.
Hammocks we’re an extra amenity.
The rooms are large, have comfortable beds and a nice sitting area outside.
It was hard to leave.
The hotel is in a very good, central location (though next to a live music venue which can be quite loud at night). The staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is served in a nearby restaurant/café which has a nice choice of meals (3-5 min walk). The pool is definitely a big plus and it's great for refreshing after a long, hot day in and around Mérida.
The accommodation is excellent, very tastefully furnished and with lots of design and detail. Claudia is an excellent host, very friendly and with good tips. She has turned the accommodation into an oasis in the middle of the city where you can feel like home. Breakfast is really good. The best accommodation on our vacation in Mexico.
situated nicely in the city centre which is very convenient because Merida is a nice city to explore. simple but clean and spacious rooms and best WiFi in Mexico so far. Even though there is no bar, plenty of opportunity to meet other travellers if you would like to. staff was willing to help me by making a phone call in Spanish.
Amazing property fairly close to the center of Merida.
Very tastefully decorated rooms, following Mexican motifs. Comfortable beds and hot water
Most kind and attentive staff which spoke great English (which is not easy to come across in Mexico)
Delicious breakfast.
A shop 200 m down the street.
The hotel itself was beautiful. It has a lovely terrace and natural pool and the hammock in our room was a nice touch. The breakfast was tasty and the staff were really friendly. Would definitely recommend this place. Probably my favourite of all the places we stayed in Mexico.
Best value for money we had in Mexico. Located on a quiet street near a beautiful shopping/restaurant street and a square. Close to the bus station.
The room was super spacious, clean and well kept. A nice refreshing pool. Terrace on top floor with hammocks.
By far the best hotel I've been to in Mexico (and one of the best worldwide for that matter). The staff is unbelievably generous and helpful and the entire hotel is just so comfortable and relaxing. Definitely will stay here again next time I visit Mérida.
The hotel restaurant is unforgettable 👌
The staff is highly qualified, and the chef is like an artist. Maybe even the best restaurant in all of Mexico.
By Mexican standards, the hotel is nice.))
The ceilings in the room are over 5 meters high 😵
The location of the Hotel was very good with walking distance to almost anywhere we wanted to go in downtown Merida. The rooms were very clean and spacious. The staff was very nice and helpful. It was nice to have the parking garage next door.
Viva Mérida Boutique hotel exceeded my expectations! This charming hotel not only has a ton of character, but is also in a central location. The staff was always pleasant and ready to assist with any request. Do not hesitate to stay here!
We stayed here on our honeymoon trip round Mexico. The hotel decoration was beautiful. Our room was huge and the private pool/tub was great. Aircon and fans worked really well and the main pool was lovely to relax by and cool down in.
Stayed at this cozy Casa in Mexico and loved it! Clean rooms and had a real family vibe. The place is nice and quiet. The staff is awesome, really friendly and made me feel right at home. Totally recommend it! 😊
A magical place in the heart of Merida. Gorgeous architecture, impeccable sense of style and elegance, great attention to detail, tranquil, charming, spotless. With no doubt the best boutique hotel in Merida!
Israel the guy on reception was very sweet and helpful. the building is beautiful with a lot of character. location is excellent. bedroom was big.
