The room is modern, great ocean view with a big balcony, lost of privacy and the bathtub with ocean view is amazing!
The hotel is very nice and the staff did their best to help and answer all our questions.
We took a private tour to the famous Moss Forests and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide! She was super knowledgeable and went out of her way to make our hike an unforgettable experience (Mish Higashi).
We where able to rent all the hiking gear that we needed for our tour.
Located at the edge of a peninsula on Yakushima Island, samana hotel Yakushima offers great views of the ocean and Mount Motchom.

The majority of the rooms are beachfront/beach view. Great, ultra-modern shower & toilet. Good location on perimeter road; quiet (except for the surf)! Pleasant staff. Remote controlled window blind. Refrigerator. WiFi. A comfortable mix of up-to-date and traditional. Room (double with two beds) is on the small side as far as dealing with suitcases, etc., but not impossible

Location is absolutely beautiful. Owner Hero-san knows everything about Yakushima & suggested us how to get to the places & times of buses. Last day, he sent us to local home cooking restaurant/Cafe which we thought incredibly charming & food was excellent !
A 3-minute walk from Yakushima Airport, Tomarigi offers a bunk in a dorm room, a garden with a hammock and free Wi-Fi.

Tomarigi’s Nee-san is like your landlord, travel agent, and mother all in one. It’s incredible to see her sit every guest down with a bus schedule to make sure they understand how to get around and make their trip a success. I saw her help plan a tourist’s entire 4 day itinerary minutes after check in. Her friendly nature is felt throughout the hostel and creates a great sense of community amongst the guests. The outdoor kitchen is an excellent place to unwind at the day’s end and make a few friends. The beds are extremely spacious and comfortable bunks, and the shower/bath is a great way to experience the life of a Japanese family for those who are visiting Japan for the first time.

The guesthouse was clean with shared kitchen, toilet and bathroom. Coffee and washing machine were available for free. Hide, the owner was very kind and helpful. He even dropped me to Miyanoura port. Great value for money. I’ll stay there again if I come to Yakushima again.
Miyanouraso offers accommodations in Yakushima, 22 miles from Yakusugi Land and 8.3 miles from Jomon Sugi. Providing free private parking, the 3-star ryokan is 6.4 miles from Shiratani Unsuikyo.
Shiratani Unsuikyo was breathtaking. Jumonsugi Cedar trail was an adventure but not as pretty as Shiratani Unsuikyo. I am glad I did it but would not do it again. I will remember Shiratani Unsuikyo for the rest of my life as one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and I have travelled a lot. Words cannot describe how beautiful it was. I wish I had 4 nights here. I needed one more day to explore the island. People should think twice about doing Jumonsugi trail. It is a lot and quite hard. Do it for the adventure but not for the views.

Incredible island full of wonderful nature toe explore, I could have spent 5 days here probably, although a car rental would be really helpful. The buses and taxis are relatively expensive and not always available or convenient.

You have to hike on Yakushima to really appreciate it.
You have to hike on Yakushima to really appreciate it. The drive into the hills to get to these walks is incredible. The walks through moss and forests of ancient trees is brillant. It is like stepping into another world on Yakushima. If not into hiking, then the waterfalls and beaches and tide pools are also great.

It is an amazing island with beautiful nature and scenery but not well developed infrastructure and scarce public transport system. Best to rent a car, otherweise it limits activity on the other side of the island. Realisticly speaking the one destination visit per day is maximum with public transport. It is also necessary to begin early, as there are not really activities just for a half day (due to bus schedules). Therefore a 3 days stay may be a bit too short considering travel time with a ferry. It is good idea to shop before reaching island as there is limited supermarket choice.

Very wild Island.
Very wild Island. Good for people liking forest and trails, not good for people liking beaches. Not touristic Island. Organic Island, locals people are nice and helping. No shops. 7 days is enough to stay and visit.

We loved being in nature every day.
We loved being in nature every day. Almost wherever you go, you have a view of the mountains and ocean. There are beautiful flowers everywhere. The less demanding hiking trails are interesting and fun and the waterfalls are spectacular. The onsens--especially the ocean onsen--are varied. The residents are friendly and helpful.
This was my first time staying in a yurt, and Daichan House did not disappoint! Although we arrived well past sunset, Daichan was very energetic and friendly. After showing us around the property, he gave a little history lesson on Daichan House as well as Yakushima. He prepared a laminated booklet with photos and English descriptions. It was fun to talk with Daichan, which we probably did for over an hour. The yurt and shared restrooms were well-maintained. Free hot water, tea, coffee, and a local mikan orange were also provided :)
Mr. Nakashima, his wife and their stuff are the Most wonderful poeple. They speak very wenn english, they are always helpful and they can give very Good Information about everything what to do on Yakushima. Transport, Restaurants, hiking spots….
The Little Huts are all build by himself. The location near amnbo ist quite Good. Five minutes to the busstop. But its worth it to hire a car, so you are much more flexible.
We had had the Most wonderful stay on Mr, Nakashimas place in our four week journey through Japan.
Thank you 👏👏👏
Barbara-san was so friendly and accommodating even after my very last minute bookings.
I was able to share nice conversations with other guests in the pictures shared space. Most of the building and furniture inside is made from wood, which felt traditional and certainly fitting, for Yakushima. The rooms are beautiful, very spacious (I was travelling alone), with tatami floors. Some rooms at the front have a view (and sound) of the river. I felt lucky to have been able to stay for a couple of nights.
I loved the location near the river and waterfall. It’s a high quality and high value hostel in an area that feels remote but worked out surprisingly well for buses to hiking areas. We took the early arriving boat to Miyanoura and could do two long trails in two days. The snack bar and ability to request bento boxes with advance notice are helpful for hikers. The owner speaks English and is willing to answer questions. We met other travelers in the common area.
The hosts were super friendly and really helpful with planning my trip or answering any questions I had before and during the trip. I chose Pension Blue Drop because it was nearby a few onsens, two of them being Hirauchi and Yudomari onsen. Both locations visited by locals but have become tourist attractions and a short drive away from the guest house. Towels provided were also switched out easily if you left them in a small bin and left outside your door.
I think the location of this hotel is absolutely amazing, it is on a cliff where you can see the ocean from the room! that is the part I really like, it is also very close to the port like a 5-minute walk, and a supermarket nearby, a very convenient location to start your journey on this island. you can book the tour group directly from the front desk and they even have hiking equipment for rental, so you can find everything you need here.
We loved this secluded cottage in the woods by a rushing river. The hand built cottage with pine interior is comfortable and has all one needs in a mountain cottage. It is quite spacious and relaxing. The owner Sato-san is friendly and helpful. We had a great week. One does need a car, but then that's really helpful anyway to get around Yakushima to the trails, etc. A perfect place to avoid the crowds.
An absolutely amazing experience. The host was extremely friendly and helped us organise our time on Yakushima including organising prepared lunches for us to take, and advising us of buses and ferries we should aim to get. Alongside this, the food was phenomenal and the accommodation was clean, comfortable, quiet and relaxing. Recommended extremely highly.
Lovely self-catering unit with private decking/sitting area perfect to watch the sunset and enjoy the hot tub. The twin beds were comfortable and we enjoyed having a small kitchen. The young girl at the reception spoke perfect English and was very helpful. We definitely recommend this place in Yakushima. You need a car though to get around.
Mike and Keiko welcomed us at the ferry to hand over our car: we got valuable hints to visit the island with our 2 kids!
The house is just perfect: we loved it! And the terrace, the garden and the sea view…
Waow!
Of course Mike and Keiko gave us snorkeling gears also to enjoy the wonderful sea life!
Very good value for money, in a traditional rural Japanese house. Placed in a very peaceful location in the island, the lady was very nice and the lodging was great. I couldn’t afford the ryokans in my stay in Japan, so this was a good substitute, and was also the best place I stayed in in Japan
near from Miyanoura port,Yakushima Environmental and Cultural Village Center.
you can use kitchen,refrigerator,rice cooker.
private room & bed sheets and the sink and basin areas are clean.
I could sleep soundly.
you can go to supermarket by walk(5minutes).
after 7pm,I could self-check-in.
Located in quite natural place but convenient to Miyanoura harbor and Shiratani. Star night is awesome when weather is good.
Facility is terrific! We got upgraded to independent bathroom and free washing machine & dryer.
Last but not least, the staff are so nice and made us feel at home!
The hosts are very kind and hospitable. They were extremely helpful with tips for exploring Yakushima and we loved their hike and restaurant recommendations. The dinner we had at the hotel was one of my favorites in all of Japan. Would definitely stay again.
Friendly and warm host. Ready to provide you with local information, help make reservations, and share Yakushima's beauty. The space felt more homey as the owner was very warm and inviting. Thank you very much!
Because the property sits on a spit of land at the southern end of Yakushima, you can actually enjoy both sunrise and sunset from the rooms and/or the main terrace. Also, the food was delicious.
