Biwako Hanakaido

Ogoto Onsen, Otsu

Japanese-style rooms have a tatami (woven-straw) floor and traditional futon bedding, while Western rooms come with beds and a sofa. All rooms all soundproof and air-conditioned, and fitted with a flat-screen TV, a fridge and an attached bathroom. Lovely food, staff, baths, own private dining room, meticulous service and very clean area. I think it’s almost impossible to top in those regards. The room with its own hotspring was divine. The massage was excellent. Would recommend.

Biwako Ryokusuitei

Ogoto Onsen, Otsu

The air-conditioned rooms come with Japanese Yukata robes, a fridge and a seating area with low tables and cushions. Guests can choose to stay in rooms with Western-style beds or in rooms with Japanese futon bedding and tatami (woven-straw) floors. Guests can watch international programmes on a flat-screen TV (BBC World, Phoenix InfoNews Channel, TVBS and YTN). The en suite bathroom comes with a hairdryer and slippers. Firstly getting picked up by the hotels bus/van at the train station was EXTREMELY Convenient. They loaded all our bags and even loaded them in carts at the hotel to bring to the front desk. Check in was quick and they brought the bags to our room and showed us what the room had to offer. My Wife and I had the Deluxe Japanese Style Room with the balcony that had a private Onsen tub outside the room. The place was beautiful with the room clean and very spacious! The Balcony has a beautiful view of the Lake and the Onsen Hot tub was hot and relaxing! They had a variety of Yukata to wear and free drinks on the first floor. We went outside on the first floor veranda to enjoy the night air. We saw some kittens playing on the premises which was a great bonus! Then we had our special Kaiseki dinner, which was great! Course after course went by and the food was great, especially the local Omi Beef! Then we went exploring the area and checked out the "library" where we just relaxed and had complementary snacks and drinks. Then the foot pool and the public Onsen on premises. We got a couples massage after and went back to the room to relax and soak in the private Onsen again. The next morning we had a buffet breakfast with all the normal fare, but also some unique Japanese choices such as fish to grill on the grill, curry rice, and Onsen Tamago(Egg). Checking out was easy and the ride back via bus from the hotel was much appreciated!

The Japanese-style rooms have tatami (woven-straw) flooring with modern furnishings and futon bedding. Each room features a private bathroom with a bathtub made of Cypress wood, filled with hot water from the local hot spring. The staff were super friendly, service minded, and fairly comfortable with English. We had a room with our own outdoor bath which was amazing, and the room as a whole was spacious, clean, and filled with amenities. All the food was great. Overall had an amazing stay and me and me wife really felt like we were taken care of and spoiled.

Ebisusou

Takashima

The ryokan features a flat-screen TV. Featuring free private parking, this 2-star ryokan also features free WiFi.

Guests at the ryokan will be able to enjoy activities in and around Takashima, like fishing. Very close to station, in a quiet village. We arrived there by our bike and was allowed to store our bike inside guest house in a storage place near entrance. Breakfast was delicious and full, traditional Japanese style. Though owner is quiet, he is helpful, answer email promptly. He gave me a paper box when I asked for my personal use. There is a kettle for boiling water, good for me as I like to drink hot water. There is a sink in balcony, so simple washing and brushing teeth can be done in room. A warm reminder to future guests: there are a few interestingly looking restaurants near by, but all need reservations before hand. We can't try. Do book.

Kiyotaki Ryokan

Hikone

Located in Hikone, Kiyotaki Ryokan offers Japanese-style accommodations, Japanese home-style cooking and free Wi-Fi, a 20-minute walk from national treasure Hikone Castle. It’s a 12-minute drive from the Sawayama Castle remains. Drinks vending machines are on-site, and free parking is available upon reservation. This was probably the best accommodation I had so far. It is true when they say - the further you go from the big cities, the more sympathetic and kind people you meet. I was very skeptical about my stay in the ryokan, as the pictures were not that promising and the price was quite low. As well as the city of Hikone is not that big (probably it is a small town area). But when I came in the evening after a full-day trip, I saw a very well made accommodation, exceptionally clean and a host, who met me with a very warm greeting! He showed me all of the facilities and we had a nice chat. I should admit - it is very important when you are coming late and plus to that you are alone. Later he offered me a dinner and I was more then amazed by how tasty and big it was for that price! I had 5 or more dishes (do not remember exactly as there were a lot), prepared on a beautiful tableware. I really felt like I was home. The lobby area was probably repaired - as it has nothing similar with the photos from the booking.com. Now it has a very clean and light colored design. It was visible from the first sight, that the host treats the hotel as if it was his own house, greeting everyone with open arms and heart. I would dream to meet such hosts in Kyoto, Osaka and other big cities. But so far, I met the best host in Hikone town. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the host-just found his name now. Hiroshi san, 温かい歓迎をありがとうございました。
