The interior decor is tastefully designed to every detail, surrounding nature is startlingly beautiful, and the host is warm and friendly.

Located in 15-minute bus ride from JR Takayama Station, Guest House & Cafe SOY is surrounded by lush greenery. Free WIFi is provided and free private parking is available on site. The property also provides free pick-up service from JR Takayama Station. It is such a wonderful home, run by equally wonderful people. We loved staying at SOY, it was super cozy, neat and beautiful. Tai and his parents are incredibly lovely and go the extra mile to make their guests feel at home and have a great time. Tai even offers to pick up and drop off his guests where needed, he also helped us reserve train seats for our next travels and gave recommendations when our other plans fell through. At SOY you can enjoy a delicious breakfast made by Tai’s sweet parents, while looking out at a beautiful view of the garden. This was our favourite stay ever and we highly recommend SOY to others!

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The property offers free WiFi access in rooms and in public areas including the shared TV lounge and the terrace. This has been my favorite place to stay in all of Japan. I absolutely loved the decor and the meal service. There are two private baths that you can use on a first-come, first-served basis and they were great. The hotel is extremely minimalist which goes with the theme of "letting the time pass by slowly". The dinner and breakfast are incredible and for only 7000 yen extra I would definitely recommend it to anyone staying here. They also have an extensive wine library and for a few thousand more yen you can include wine pairing with your meal. This was one of the best meals I've had in Japan, and I've dined at over a dozen Michelin-Starred places in Tokyo. It's also a brief drive over to Hida no Sato (Folk Village), and you can get a shuttle to take you there.

Guests at Guesthouse Tomaru can experience Japanese-style futon bedding on a tatami (woven-straw) floor in the private rooms. Dormitory rooms have futon bedding as well; bottom bunks sit directly on the tatami flooring, and top bunks use a wooden bunk bed frame. It is a very cozy hostel, you feel immediately at home. The owner is very helpful and gave us a lot of recommendations and information about the sourroundings. Also, there is lot of information at the reception you can read by yourself. There is a great bookshelf with interesting books for adults and also books and games for children. Our children loved them and they wanted to stay the whole day at the reception. In the morning we got coffee with a smile and the room is so comfortable it felt like home. There are so many small but nice details like the backup towel at the shower, the children books at the room or that we got three futons on the floor instead of the bunk bed, which is not very easy with small children or the well equipped kitchen. Great recommendation for this wonderful place!! I wish we could have stayed longer.
