Hotel Asafuji

Fujikawaguchiko Onsen-kyo, Fujikawaguchiko

The air-conditioned rooms at Hotel Asafuji have Shoji paper screens and a low table with floor chairs and cushions. Each room includes a fridge, private toilet, and guests bathe at the hot-spring baths. Japanese-style futon bedding on a tatami (woven-straw) floor is provided. Yukata robes are offered for guests. We booked Asafuji somewhat impulsively, having limited options at the last minute, but it turned out to be a delightful choice. Managed by a couple for four decades, Asafuji is a charming hotel where every detail is meticulously taken care of. Despite the initial impression of small rooms from the website, we were pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness upon arrival. The highlight, undoubtedly, is the breathtaking view of the lake and Mt. Fuji – a feature that we absolutely loved, and the ONSEN! The staff at Asafuji played a significant role in enhancing our experience. Their assistance was not only helpful but also prompt in response. A special mention goes to a female Vietnamese staff member who went the extra mile to encourage my son to eat during dinner. This seemingly simple gesture significantly contributed to our peace of mind while indulging in the scrumptious dinner prepared by the hotel. Speaking of which, the food was not only delicious but well presented in Japanese style. For those seeking the authentic ryokan experience in Kawaguchiko, I wholeheartedly recommend Asafuji. Despite its modest size, the hotel's central location manages to strike a perfect balance, offering tranquility amidst the scenic surroundings. Our stay at Asafuji was a memorable blend of comfort, stunning views, and warm hospitality – an experience we would gladly repeat and recommend to fellow travelers.

Boasting mountain views, Private Hotel Rei features accommodation with terrace, around 7.1 km from Lake Kawaguchi. The ryokan is located in a geothermal area, with a number of hot springs nearby for guests to relax in. This property is a real gem. Located in a quiet location away from the busy tourist hub. We had a car so it was perfect for us but you might need to explore your options if using public transport. The owner Yoshi and his wife Aya are amazing. Yoshi is a real foodie and so also doubles as the chef with a focus on a fusion between Japanese and Western meals. The food was awesome and delicious. Yoshi also gave us some very helpful suggestions during our stay which were all great and enabled us to have the best possible time. We only stayed a couple of nights but when we left we felt like family. I can highly recommend this delightful and charming private hotel and I would love to return one day. I would count our stay here as one of the highlights of our holiday in Japan.

Kawaguchiko Lakeside Hotel

Fujikawaguchiko Onsen-kyo, Fujikawaguchiko

Located just a minute's walk from Kawaguchiko Lake, Kawaguchiko Lakeside Hotel offers accommodation in Fujikawaguchiko, near Kawaguchiko Ohashi Bridge. Free WiFi is available throughout the entire property. The hotel is a minutes' walk away from the shores of Kawaguchiko and Kawaguchiko Herbkan. We came for the view which, from our room, exceeded expectations. We will come back because of the awesome staff who went out of their way to make us feel at home. We stayed one night on our way from Tokyo to Kyoto by train. We ordered dinner the night of arrival and breakfast the next day. Both were delicious, traditional Japanese meals served with a spectacular view of Mt Fuji. Our waitress inquired where we were headed and recommended we consider an express bus to Mishima where we could get a bullet train to Kyoto. We agreed and before we knew it she had already made reservations for us! This saved us at least an hour and the misery of several train stops. Not fully evident from the property description is the supreme location of the hotel. As the name suggests, it’s near the lake, but also within walking distance of convenience stores, restaurants and several shops. The hotel also offers shuttle service to and from the train station. If you are planning a stay in Kawaguchiko (which you should) and want to be pampered with the full Japanese experience, let Lakeside Hotel pamper you as they did our family.
